Xiaobin Lu

Xiaobin Lu is a clarinetist of the China National Symphony Orchestra, a distinguished professor at the Middle School affiliated to China Conservatory of Music, a specially appointed artistic expert with the Symphony Orchestra of the High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China, and an endorsing artist of F. Arthur Uebel.
Xiaobin Lu began studying the clarinet at an early age under the guidance of Professor Xing Xuezhi. He was subsequently admitted with outstanding results to the Affiliated Secondary School of the Central Conservatory of Music, where he studied with Professors Tao Chunxiao and Huang Yuanfu. He later advanced to the Central Conservatory of Music, ranking first nationwide in the wind instrument category.
In 1999, at the invitation of renowned conductor Professor Zheng Xiaoying, Xiaobin Lu joined the Xiamen Philharmonic Orchestra, serving as Principal Clarinet and Woodwind Section Leader. Since 2000, he has been a member of the China National Symphony Orchestra. Over the years, he has participated extensively in major national performances and state events, as well as international tours with the orchestra across Asia, Europe, Oceania, and the Americas.
From 2003 to 2013, Xiaobin Lu also served as Music Director of the Chinese National Rhythmic Gymnastics Team, taking responsibility for music composition and production. His work contributed to the team's historic achievement of winning the silver medal in the group event at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
As a performer, Xiaobin Lu has maintained an active presence on concert stages in China and abroad. He has participated in numerous major music festivals, artistic events, and international cultural exchange programs, collaborating with distinguished musicians from China and around the world. In 2025, he was invited to perform as a clarinet soloist at the 2025 Seattle Chinese New Year Gala, held at Benaroya Hall in Seattle, USA.
In the field of education, Xiaobin Lu has long been committed to nurturing the next generation of outstanding young clarinetists. He currently serves as a specially appointed professor at the Middle School affiliated to China Conservatory of Music, where he teaches clarinet performance and provides professional instruction. He has also guided students selected for the 2025–2026 Outstanding Talent Development Program of the China Conservatory of Music.
The ensembles under his guidance—including the Jinfan Symphony Orchestra of the High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China, the Hepingli Jinfan Wind Orchestra, and the Shijia Jinfan Wind Orchestra—have repeatedly received First Prizes at national and Beijing municipal arts competitions, as well as Gold Awards at the National Zhonghua Cup Wind Orchestra Competition. Xiaobin Lu has also served on the judging panels for the Beijing university entrance examinations for students with outstanding artistic talents on numerous occasions.
Over the years, students trained by Xiaobin Lu have achieved outstanding results in major competitions and performances both in China and internationally. His students have won First Prizes in competitions including the Lufthansa International Youth Music Competition, the National Zhonghua Cup Wind Music Competition, the Buffet Crampon China Youth Clarinet Competition, and the Mozart International Clarinet Competition. They have also received numerous Gold Awards at events including the Greater Bay Area Clarinet & Saxophone Exhibition, as well as the Rizhao Dongfang Wind Music Carnival and the Wind Music Cup Solo and Chamber Music Showcase.
Under his guidance, a woodwind quintet won First Prize in Category B (Chamber Music) at the national-level round of the China Youth Music Competition – Hummingbird Music Awards for two consecutive editions and was subsequently selected to perform in the concert. His clarinet duo also received a Gold Award, further demonstrating his achievements in clarinet performance and chamber music education.
In recognition of his outstanding teaching and chamber music coaching, Xiaobin Lu has received multiple Teaching Excellence Awards, Best Chamber Music Teaching Awards, and Best Instructor Awards at the competitions and events mentioned above.
