Biography
As a clarinetist and educator, Tao Ran has been recognized as an Outstanding Teacher of Shenzhen, one of Shenzhen's Top Ten Young Teachers, an Outstanding Musician of Guangdong Province, and a Shenzhen Artist. He has received numerous awards, including the "Outstanding Instructor Award" at the 3rd National Art Colleges Clarinet Performance Competition organized by the Ministry of Culture of China. He has published clarinet performance tutorials, as well as instructional DVDs on "Clarinet Basics" and "Clarinet Playing Techniques," and has published over ten academic papers, including "A Study on Basic Clarinet Playing Techniques for Primary and Secondary School Students," "A Brief Discussion on Breathing in Wind Instrument Playing," and "On the Correct Pronunciation of the Clarinet." He has also compiled and published the "Concert Classics Series - Clarinet Solo" and recorded a personal CD album. He has composed original works such as "Grassland Reed Song" and "Wandering", and arranged clarinet pieces such as "Song in My Heart" and "Harbor Love." He has held solo, ensemble, and chamber music concerts throughout China and served as a judge for domestic and international music competitions. The "Shenzhen Inter-School Wind Music Festival," which he organized and planned, has been held for 25 consecutive years and has become a well-known and influential wind music education brand in China. His biography has been included in the Dictionary of Chinese Musicians and the Chinese Excellent Teachers' Human Resources Database.
Tao Ran graduated from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music in 1997. He began learning the clarinet at the age of eight under his mentor, Zhao Ziping, and was considered exceptionally musically talented. He later studied under renowned Chinese clarinet educators Jiang Baocheng, Zhang Renfu, and Professor Gu Peng.
After graduation, Tao Ran has been teaching clarinet at the Shenzhen Arts School ever since. His students have gone on to pursue further studies at prestigious music academies both domestically and internationally, including the Central Conservatory of Music, Shanghai Conservatory of Music, China Conservatory of Music, German Arts University, Cologne University of Music, Stuttgart University of Music, École Normale Supérieure des Conservatoire (France), Royal Northern College of Music (UK), Juilliard School (USA), Cleveland Institute of Music (USA), Michigan State University, Indiana University School of Music (USA), Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music (National University of Singapore), and Florence Conservatory of Music (Italy). His students have won dozens of awards in music competitions at home and abroad. Many students also have been admitted to key universities in China, such as Tsinghua University, Peking University, Renmin University of China, and Zhejiang University. Some of his students have become expert teachers in domestic art colleges and musicians in domestic professional symphony orchestras.
