Biography
Salvatore Schembari is a clarinetist, conductor, and composer. He graduated with top marks and honors from the “V. Bellini” Conservatory in Catania, the “G. Martucci” Conservatory in Salerno, and the “L. Refice” Conservatory in Frosinone. He also earned a diploma from the prestigious Chigiana Music Academy in Siena, where he studied with Maestro G. Garbarino.
As a clarinetist, he has performed with various orchestras and in major theaters such as the Teatro Massimo in Catania, Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Parco della Musica in Rome, Teatro Regio in Parma, the Ukrainian National Orchestra, and the Savona Symphony Orchestra.
As a composer, he has written hundreds of works in various genres—from opera to chamber music—and as a conductor, he has led both symphonic concerts and operatic productions. He has published extensively with leading Italian music publishers, particularly in the areas of clarinet literature and original works for wind band.
He has recorded for RAI and toured in Italy, Spain, Sweden, Germany, the United States, Argentina, and Malta. His compositions are performed worldwide by prominent soloists and distinguished orchestras.
In 2011, he won the national audition for principal clarinet of the Italian National Army Band in Rome, an ensemble he has also conducted on several occasions. In 2017, the Alexander and Buono Foundation commissioned a new work from him, which premiered at Carnegie Hall in New York.
In May 2024, he won the national competition for a conservatory professorship in Italy.
