Biography
Ke Qi, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at Wenzhou University School of Music. currently serves as Director of the Wenzhou University Wind Ensemble, Standing Council Member of the Zhejiang Provincial Wind Music Association, Vice President of the Wenzhou Municipal Wind Music Association, and is a signed artist for F.A.Uebel Clarinet.
He earned his bachelor's degree from Shanghai Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of Professor Zengmao Zhao and Associate Professor Yemo He . In 2016, he was admitted to Temple University's Boyer College of Music and Dance, studying with Ricardo Morales (principal clarinetist of the Philadelphia Orchestra and one of today's most celebrated clarinet virtuosos) while serving as teaching assistant at Temple University's Preparatory Division. In 2018, he entered Indiana University Jacobs School of Music to pursue Performance Diploma under Professor James Campbell with full scholarship. Since 2019, he studied with Professor Luis Rossi and became the first Chinese clarinetist in Indiana University's history to receive the Artist Diploma with the Artistic Excellence Award.
Ke Qi has won numerous competition prizes, including the Gold Medal in Temple University's 2018 Concerto Competition and consecutive first prizes in clarinet at Indiana University's Concerto Competitions from 2019 to 2020. Clarinet virtuoso Ricardo Morales praised his playing as "capable of producing soul-stirring sounds," while Professor James Campbell commended his "flawless clarinet technique." Noted pianist Professor Emile Naoumoff remarked, "His sound carries resonance as if piano pedals were added."
As an orchestral musician, Ke Qi served as principal clarinetist in both Temple University and Indiana University Symphony Orchestras. In 2018, he was selected for the National Orchestra Institute festival and passed the Philadelphia Orchestra's substitute audition. His performances as soloist and chamber musician have spanned three continents, covering Asia, Europe, and North America.
