Biography

Gerald Kraxberger attended the Music High School in Linz from 1979 to 1984 and studied clarinet at the Bruckner Conservatory under Prof. Karl M. Kubizek. In 1984, he completed his Matura and the instrumental teacher training for clarinet. In June 1985, he passed his clarinet exam at the Bruckner Conservatory with distinction. From 1986 to 1991, he continued his clarinet studies with Prof. Peter Schmidl and Johann Hindler at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. He received his diploma examination with distinction and was awarded the appreciation prize of the Ministry of Education.

Kraxberger began teaching in 1981 and has been teaching at the Upper Austrian Landesmusikschulwerk since 1985. Since 1988, he has been a teacher for clarinet at the Bruckner Conservatory Linz. He attended master classes and further training with Sabine Meyer, Rainer Wehle, Eddie Daniels, Harry Sparnaay, and Ernesto Molinari, among others, and studied with Prof. Wolfgang Meyer at the Karlsruhe Music Academy in 1996/97. In 1996, he earned his "Magister Artium" at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.

Kraxberger has been a teaching position for clarinet and didactics at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna since December 1997. From October 1997 to September 2004, he held a teaching position for clarinet and didactics at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna Department of Wind and Percussion Instruments in Music Pedagogy. In autumn 2004, he received his habilitation in clarinet at the Anton Bruckner Private University Linz.

As an artist, Kraxberger has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in the ensemble Duo Diagonal, Ensemble Clarissma, Upper Austrian wind soloists, Ensemble Octogon, and has made record productions and participated mainly in the following orchestras: Bruckner Orchestra Linz, Lower Austrian Tonkünstler Orchestra, Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, Camerata Salzburg, Festival Sinfonietta Linz, and the Austrian Ensemble for New Music.
