Biography

Gou Di is a clarinet teacher at Chongqing Vocational College of Culture and Arts and Chongqing School of Arts. He is also a clarinetist with the Chongqing Woodwind Quintet and a member of the Chongqing Musicians Association and the Chinese Clarinet Society.

He began his musical studies with piano before taking up the clarinet under the guidance of Mr. Pei Shouxun, a renowned clarinet educator in Chongqing, and Professor Xiang Zhenlong of the Sichuan Conservatory of Music. In 2005, he continued his studies in Ukraine at the R. M. Glier Kyiv Music Institute and the I. P. Kotlyarevsky Kharkiv State University of Arts, where he earned a Master’s degree in Clarinet Performance.

Throughout his career, Gou Di has received numerous awards, including First Prize in the Wind Solo Category of the 21st Century Art International Competition for Young Performers in Ukraine, the Gold Medal at the 8th Ukrainian Classical Music Competition, First Prize in the Clarinet Division of the 90th Leopold Bellan International Music Competition in Paris, and First Prize at the Third Bayu Craftsman Cup Music Industry Professional Skills Competition in Chongqing.

In recognition of his artistic achievements and professional expertise, he was invited to serve as a jury member for the 95th Leopold Bellan International Music Competition in Paris and the 8th National Wind Solo Competition for Primary and Secondary School Students in China in 2021.

Gou Di previously served as Principal Clarinet of the Chongqing Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra and has performed with numerous professional orchestras throughout China, including the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, the Qingdao Symphony Orchestra, and the Chongqing Symphony Orchestra.

In 2013, together with several distinguished wind musicians, he co-founded the Chongqing Woodwind Quintet. Since then, the ensemble has presented numerous concert seasons featuring innovative programming and has arranged more than 80 works for wind quintet, contributing significantly to the promotion of chamber music in China.
